Good or Bad TV industry?

Defend the view that technology has been either good or bad for the TV industry.

In my view I think that technology has had a very good impact on the TV industry this could be due to things such as he production value of the programmes and films increasing majorly, as this happened the quality of the programmes and films got better this would make the viewing experience more enjoyable due to special effects and the general camera movements. This would make it seem more real and have a greater impact of the viewers.  Making more people watch the programmes and make more money for the industry. Fragmented audiences is also a good point for the TV industry this is because more people can watch at the same time increasing the views of the programmes as people can watch n laptops, iPads, phones, ect. This would make the TV industry have many more views and this would increase how much the programme is worth. Saying this mass audience has a bad effect on the TV industry as I do not think there is eally a mass audience anymore, this is because not many people watch the same thing all at the same time as there are so many other channels to watch people do not have to watch the same thing making most of the big shows still not have a nmas audience.

How is Kari represented in Homland?

Kari is one of the main characters in homeland she works for the CIA and is very well know by many people in the agency. You can see that she is such an important character in the program as in the pilot episode we mostly follow her though out the whole episode and it starts with her as the first character you see. It is mainly centered on her and the audience is on her side the whole way through the program. She works for David but questions his commands and information when she thinks he is wrong, she does what she likes most of the time. In the program Kari is portrayed as a very manly character and therefore challenges her stereotypical representation, she is not physically imposing but still the "on hand" jobs, this is shown when she gets dragged away by the prison guards, they move her roughly yet she does not react dramatically in any way. She is strong and domineering, you would usually not see this in many other action drama programs as typically the women in this genre do not usually play this sort of role they mainly play parts such as the damsel in distress which need to be saved by the main good guy, which Kari plays in this program. In the opening of the pilot episode Kari does not effect the audience expectations at all as she does not give away much except from her being suspicious towards Nick Brody.

Exam Question Prep

Analyse the front covers for both GQ and Saga magazines commenting on:
Visual codes
Layout and design
Language and mode of address

In Saga magazine the main character on the font cover is Michael Caine who is dressed in a suit to look like a business man his pose is just hands in him pockets he looks innocent in this piece and his is an elderly man and almost looks scared at what he is looking at, this goes with the collum that is just to the right of him saying, 'There was crime when I was growing up. But I cant remember old people being terrified to go out'. He is also stood in a  dirty background as if he is literally just stand some where in a street (not a professional photoshoot). Where in GQ magazine the main character is Clint Eastwood and he is dressed in all denim with his top buttons undone to make him look rough and ready his pose is quiet 'macho' like he is highly ranked where ever he is or at what he does, his hands giving the illusion that he is thinking of something is great depth, his facial expressions are quiet angry almost to say 'don't come near me or i will hurt you', this corresponds with the article in the top right corner of the cover saying 'BADASS OF THE YEAR Clint Eastwood' badass of the year is written in bold to catch your attention and under that is says Clint Eastwood in smaller font not in bold. This is almost like they doubt that Clint Eastwood is actually the badass of the year. The layout of the cover of Saga magazine Is quite plain with Micheal Caine standing in the centre of the page as the main subject of the page with about 7 little piece of text around him (all in the same size font) may they be about different articles in the magazine or the magazines name. The picture of Micheal Caine does no go over the pieces of text spreed around the page and the pieces of text do not over lap the picture except from the pug directly next to the picture which is related to the article that Micheal Caine is in the magazine saying 'MICHEAL CAINE the actor returns to the mean streets of his childhood - and doesn't like what he sees' Micheal Caine is written in bold which is showing him off as he is a very famous actor whom has been in allot of very famous films. Where in the GQ magazine Clint Eastwood is in a similar place on the page with again pieces of text scattered all around him in different colour and different font sizes, with him over lapping on the magazine title and pieces of texts over lapping on him almost suggesting that the pieces of text overlapping him (And our obsession of the year) is more important than the most famous wild west character known.

Explore representation of issues in 'Breaking Bad' and 'Walking Dead'

There are many representations shown in Breaking Bad show to the audience these are cancer, drugs, murder, disability and race. Cancer is shown though out the series but is shown clearly with expressions in the scene when he finds out he has cancer in the hospital Walter blanks out so that everything is a blur and he cannot hear the doctor propaly because he is dealing with the shock. His expresion is blank as if he doesnt even care but it is because he cannot think straight. The connotations you read from his facial expresions that he is scared not just for himself but for how his family and friends are going to cope without him.

Elle and TopGear cover evaluation

In the ELLE magazine cover the model (Emma Watson) has airbrushed used on her this makes her image unachievable to other women. It uses a puff near the top of the page to catch the readers attention with the word free, the cover also uses graphics all over the page to have short summaries of the columns in the magazine. The masthead on the cover is bright and in massive font to make it stand out from all the other pieces of font, it is also in a bright red colour which makes it stand out as well. There is a strap line down the bottom of the cover just telling you another article inside the magazine. The mode of address of Emma Watson is that she is sure of her self (obviously she can be as she has 10 million in the bank) almost as if she is cocky but she does not want to look that way as it would make he disliked. The target audience for the magazine are women aged 16 to 25 of whom are middle class and mainly white with British heritage, other media that they consume would be things like Cosmopolitan magazine the TV show New Girl, they may also be Harry Potter fans as the model on the front of the cover is Emma Watson who is well known for being in all the Harry Potter films released.

In the Top Gear cover it uses a slogan to make you remember the magazine which is 'We've got them both!' this slogan is only for this particular magazine. It uses cover lines to show what the main articles in the magazine are going to be about. Layout plays a big role in this cover as it uses smany techniques to break up the writing so it does not look so formal such as arrows and different colour boxes for small bits of writing.

The Walking Dead

Suggest 2 ways in which men/women have been represented.

Merl is represented as a red neck white American you can see this from the way he dresses as he is from southern America where they do not believe in black rights this makes him very racist even towards his friends (although he has none else alive with him). He seems like he has authority over most of the group except  from the leaders you can see this as when he has a fight with T-Doc and no one steps in except from the sheriff (Rick). You can see that he has auothrity as it uses low camera angles so you are looking up at him making him look like he is better than the others.
